Diamond color rating is the one aspect of diamond grading that is done exclusively with the naked eye. However, in a poor cut or shape, it can closely resemble a k color diamond too. J color diamond is closer to faint yellow standing last in the near colorless range puts the j color in a position closer to the faint yellow category of the gia color scale.

The j colored diamond (right) is noticeably more yellow when set on a white gold ring. A j color diamond is relatively high on the overall scale, in a range described as “near colorless” by gemologists which includes g, h, i and j colors. As a member of the “near colorless” range on the grading scale, a j color diamond looks white to most observers. J color diamonds fit into the “near colorless” range of the scale, meaning that while they may display some hints of color, they still appear primarily colorless when they’re looked at with the naked eye.
